The original intent of this project was to fill in gaps in the early history of the department with materials from the estate of Dr. Dale F. Leipper and transfer that material via the internet to the department. The photo notes are an attempt to clarify the process and concepts behind that transfer.
I have included any photos and documents that I thought related to the early development of the TAMU Department of Oceanography and Meteorology. My thinking was that it was better to include more material than less and you could decide what is important and what should be kept and added to the department archives.
I have tried to name and date photos to the best of my ability. If Dad (or other photographer's) included a date or name, I used that. If there was no information and I knew the subject of the photo, I used that. Many of the photos of people include the person's name in the photo name.
The preferred naming scheme used for photos starts with a date, specific if available (56ag-v23ae2-o1-meterology.jpg) or close estimate (50s-v8p2r3_004-jackkula.jpg) The rest of the name indicates other information as to how the photo is stored in our collection and a subject or name.
Photos with a kdwl ( 054-kdwl-ship-bunk.jpg) in the name indicate those take by either Ken Drummond or Walter Lang
Some of these photos were scanned from the original negatives. Because of age and other factors, they would need to be re-scanned with more professional equipment in order to obtain a better image.
The site map is set up for direct transference of photos to the TAMU Oceanography Department archives
I have sorted the photos into folders in an effort to keep related materials together and make sorting through materials easier.

Dale Leipper “brought with him Lucy Booth, a UCLA graduate with a bachelor's degree in meteorology, to serve as department secretary. Thus Ms. Booth became the first employee with professional quali-fications in the Department of Oceanography “ From D.A. Brooks article in Quarterdeck on the early years in the Department of Oceanography.
